Vale Duncan Ironmonger, AM, FASSA, 12/10/1931- 3/9/2024
The Economic Society, especially the Victorian branch, regret the passing of Duncan Ironmonger at the age of 92.
Duncan spent most of his career at the University of Melbourne following his return from Cambridge after a brief stint at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. His research focus was the economics of the household which originated from his Cambridge dissertation. It was recognised as a pioneering effort and opening up new vistas in economic science.
He joined the Melbourne Institute of applied Economic and Social Research and going on to lead that organisation in the 1980s.
Duncan was the president of the Victorian branch of the Society in the early 1970s and was the Honorary Treasurer for the whole of the Society from May 1973 until May 1976.
