What is the Role?

The Economic Regulation Authority is seeking two senior leaders to play a pivotal role in shaping Western Australia’s regulatory frameworks ensuring they operate effectively, fairly and safeguarding consumers interests. To strengthen its executive leadership at this critical time, the ERA has established two new Executive Director positions.

These Executive Director roles are full time, fixed term Senior Executive Service (SES) appointments for a period of up to 5 years. The Executive Directors will provide strategic, operational and technical leadership across the Regulation division. Working at the centre of complex regulatory issues, you will lead high‑performing teams, with a continuous improvement mindset.

The Executive Director, Access will lead the ERA’s three Access Teams - Rail, Gas and Electricity. This role is responsible for overseeing third-party access to network services ensuring access arrangements are administered fairly, transparently and efficiently in line with regulatory frameworks.

The Executive Director, Licensing, Compliance and Customer Protection will lead the ERA’s Licensing and Customer Protection team, Monitoring and Licence Compliance team and the Alternative Electricity Services Team. Ensuring licensees meet their regulatory obligations, drive effective compliance and enforcement action where required, and uphold strong customer protection outcomes.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, Regulation, you will be trusted advisers to the ERA’s Executive and Governing Body (Board), providing clear, evidence‑based advice on regulatory matters. The roles involve close engagement with industry, government and other regulators, with a focus on improving regulatory effectiveness, strengthening analytical capability and supporting the energy transition in Western Australia.

If you are motivated by intellectual challenge, public impact and leading work that matters, these roles offer a rare opportunity to influence the future of energy markets at a critical time.
