We then explore the unsatisfactory nature of our understanding of the quantitative importance of the various US links between economic theory\, &ldquo\;big picture&rdquo\; facts \; and empirical research outcomes underlying tariff policies to &ldquo\;Make America Great Again&rdquo\;. PhD (Honaris Causa\, Melb). Bob is Professor Emeritus (ANU)\, ex Board member Reserve Bank of Australia and the Australian Science and Technology Council. He held the Chair of Australian Studies\, Harvard\, 1983-84\,. He has been President of the Economic Society of Australia (1996-1999)\, Editor of the Economic Record and was awarded the Economic Society Distinguished Fellow Award (2001). \; Previous academic appointments include University of Melbourne\, London School of Economics\, Australian National University\, Northwestern University\, and visiting positions at The Board of Governors\, Federal Reserve System\, Washington\, Harvard University\, and the University of Chicago. He was Head of the Economics Department\, RSSS\, ANU\, 1986-2006. His research interests include international trade\, labour economics\, income support systems.
