DESCRIPTION:Which evaluation approach when?: Helping make informed choices
There are a variety of evaluation approaches available for estimating the cost and value of interventions including those that involve broader social costs and benefits\, such as cost-benefit analysis (CBA).&nbsp\; However there are a number of other approaches including break-even analysis\, multi-criteria analysis\, private rates of return\, social rates of return\, cost-effectiveness analysis\, and cost-utility analysis.&nbsp\; The selection of the right evaluation approach is important when considering evidence-based decision making and choosing between interventions.&nbsp\; Knowing when and where to use which approach is critical to this choice process.
Biography
George Rivers is Associate Dean (Research Collaboration) in the Faculty of Business and Economics. George has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours)\, a Masters of Economics and a PhD in industrial economics from Monash University.

He has worked in a range of industry-related research projects including\, most notably\, his research for the Royal Botanic Gardens on benefit transfer\, which played a key role in securing $21 million from the Bracks Government for the construction of Stage 2 of the Australian Garden.&nbsp\;

His research interests relate to the theory of the firm including mergers and acquisitions\, downsizing and transaction costs.
