The Economic Society of Australia Victoria Branch warmly invites you to attend the Inaugural Sir Douglas Copland Memorial Lecture, delivered by esteemed Professor Emeritus Bob Gregory.

"Making America Great Again"
From Copland to Trump: What can Economists learn from the Tectonic Shift in US tariff policy?

The extraordinary refocussing of US tariff policy under President Trump is potentially the most important shift in “world economic” policy in the last three quarters of a century.  We discuss how US and world economic outcomes contributed to this tectonic shift. We then explore the unsatisfactory nature of our understanding of the quantitative importance of the various US links between economic theory, “big picture” facts  and empirical research outcomes underlying tariff policies to “Make America Great Again”.

Bob Gregory will be joining the ESA for dinner after the talk.  You are welcome to join us afterwards and will be able to pay at the venue.
