Evaluation Methods Workshop

The Economic Society of Australia, Victorian Branch, warmly invites you to a one-day workshop focused on two key methodologies for policy evaluation.

  • The Design and Conduct of Randomised Control Trials: Gain insights into the principles of designing and implementing RCTs, a gold standard for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and interventions.
  • The Theory and Practice of Difference-in-Difference Methodology: Learn how this powerful econometric technique can be applied to asses causal relationships and evaluate policy impacts over time.

These techniques have recently emerged as the preferred methods for policy evaluation in both government and industry, making this workshop invaluable for professionals seeking to enhance their analytical skills and improve evidence-based decision-making.

Introduction to Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) for business and policy, Prof Dmitry Ryvkin

Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) are considered the gold standard in research design for business optimisation and policy evaluation. In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of causal inference in informing business and policy decisions,  the challenges of using observational data, and how the RCT methodology can address those challenges. Participants will study examples of real-world business and policy interventions, engage in hands-on exercises with data analysis and interpretation, and will have the opportunity to design and present their own RCT interventions.

Introduction to Difference-in-Differences (DiD) for Policy Evaluation, Dr Rebecca Valenzuela

Join us for a hands-on workshop designed to explore the Difference-in-Differences (DiD) methodology, a powerful tool for evaluating the impact of policies and programs. This session will provide an overview of DiD concepts, including its key assumptions and applications in real-world scenarios. Participants will learn how to design and analyze studies using DiD, equipping them with the skills to make data-driven decisions and assess policy effectiveness. Engage in interactive discussions and case studies to deepen your understanding and enhance your analytical capabilities.
