Mariana Mazzucato - The Mission-Led Australia Tour - Melbourne Lecture

From: Thursday March 14, 2024, 7:00 pm

To: Thursday March 14, 2024, 9:00 pm

Professor Mariana Mazzucato, Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London, will present a Public Lecture at the Glyn Davis Building, Parkville Campus, University of Melbourne on March 14.

Professor Mazzucato, who has gained global prominence through books like The Entrepreneurial StateMission Economy and – most recently – The Big Con, will provide an address on industrial development and innovation in a less secure, more geopolitically fraught, post-Covid global environment.

Like much of the rest of the world, Australia is rethinking its approach to industrial policy in the wake of Covid-induced supply chain shocks, energy transition issues and the growing geostrategic competition.

Professor Mazzucato’s Australian speaking tour arrives at a historically significant moment for the nation.

In fact, Australia’s industrial policy thinking has shifted in a way not seen in 40 years. Issues of sovereign capability, sovereign supply chains, friend-shoring, strategic alliances across critical technologies – these are all mainstream discussions today.

Professor Mazzucato will be available for a book signing following the lecture.
