Geoff Blainey has been writing best-selling history books since the 1960s with his most famous book The Tyranny of Distance (1966) still in print. He will soon be releasing a revised edition of his book The Causes of War.

His talk will be followed by Professor Joan Beaumont (ANU) discussing some of the findings of her recently published book Australia’s Great Depression (2022) with the subtitle how a nation shattered by the great war survived the worst economic crisis it has ever faced.
