THE ECONOMIC SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA – VICTORIA BRANCH

Cordially Invites You to Our

END OF YEAR EVENT AND AGM

Date: Wednesday 15 December 2021

After two years of working from home and online webinars, the Economic Society is looking forward to getting together in person, and promoting connection among our members and those interested in contemporary economic issues and debate.

Please join us as we hear from our guest speaker, Associate Professor Ashton de Silva, Associate Dean of Economics at RMIT University, on the importance of place in economic policy.

About our Guest Speaker

Before the pandemic, major challenges included accommodating our ageing community, declining fertility and housing affordability. Covid-19 and the response to it, has reframed challenges with an increased emphasis on ‘place’. In this short presentation, Ashton will briefly discuss some of the pre-covid challenges in relation to place, based on recent research with several colleagues. He will also briefly discuss some current research exploring the different approaches to policy in “place”.

Dr de Silva is an applied economist/econometrician and currently head of the economics department at RMIT University. As well as publishing in leading academic journals he has a strong record of receiving grants and industry research contracts as well as working with various stakeholders on topics focusing on the economics of ‘place’.
