The topic
Road safety continues to be a significant social problem with over a thousand people killed and tens of thousands seriously injured on Australian roads each year. This presentation will examine the economics of road safety and examines the possibility of an insurance-based approach to encourage safer road use. In doing so, the presentation will cover issues associated with the value of safety, behavioural economics, compensation, efficient deterrence, the potential role of insurers in managing risk and the implications of new technologies for how we regulate for road-safety.
