Water and Values
It’s hard not to have a conversation about water in Australia without someone using the word ‘value’. Whether its ecologists talking about the environmental worth of a wetland, agriculturalists choosing between irrigated crops, economists promoting the benefits of water markets, engineers seeking the best technical outcome or an individual claiming to represent community opinion – they all use the term ‘value’.
But what values count when it comes to water and who’s doing the counting? Also, why are values so important, how are they measured and how are they formed?
The 2014 Water Forum will focus on values and water. As with previous events the Forum will use high-calibre keynote speakers to give shape to the theme of the Forum and also provide an opportunity to focus on separate strands of interest covering:
• Environmental water;
• Urban water;
• Agricultural water.
The Forum is open to practitioners, policy makers, researchers and resource managers and welcomes involvement by early career professionals.
