Professor Joseph Stiglitz
Professor Joseph Stiglitz is one of the world’s great economists – known for his economic research, his involvement at the highest level in economic policy and for his plain-speaking yet subtle critique of globalisation, its institutions and their policies, writing books that have been read by millions.He received the Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on the economics of information. He has been the Chairman of US President’s Council of Economic Advisors, the Chief Economist of the World Bank, and is the author of many award-winning books, including “Globalization and its Discontents”, “The Three Trillion Dollar War: The True Cost of the Iraq Conflict”, “Freefall: America, Free Markets and the Sinking of the World Economy” and “The Price of Inequality”. The Richard Snape Lecture is presented by the Economics Society of Australia and the Productivity Commission Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz is visiting Australia as the Economic Society of Australia's Eminent Speaker for 2014 with the foundation support of the Australian National University's Crawford School of Public Policy.
