Max Corden: Patron of the Economic Society of Australia (Victoria)

 In 2016, the Council decided to introduce a new role and appoint a Patron for the Society. The role is to be offered to an economist who has made a significant contribution to both economics and to the Society itself. 

We are delighted to announce that Emeritus Professor Max Corden has accepted our invitation to be our first Patron.

Professor Corden has had a distinguished career, making significant contributions to trade theory as well as monetary integration and macroeconomics. He has received many honours. In particular, he is an Honorary Foreign Member of the American Economic Association, is a Fellow of the British Academy and of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, is a Distinguished Fellow of the Economic Society of Australia, has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Melbourne, and is a Companion of the Order of Australia. Max is currently is a member of the Economic Society’s National Economics Panel .

Max has a long history of support for the Economic Society. He was Secretary of the Victorian branch for a record six years early in his career and later served with distinction as out National President.

We thank Professor Corden for his long and distinguished career in economics and thank him for contribution to the Society – a worthy Patron.
